Interested in presenting a session at the conference?
The Western Australian Adult Literacy Council (WAALC) invite expressions of interest from individuals who would like to present a workshop at the July 2013 state conference.
Develop a proposal now if you have information to share that will renew our focus on literacy for empowerment: ways of working that place the learner at the centre of teaching and learning and focus on outcomes which the learner identifies as contributing benefit to their lives.
Delegates at last year's Conference expressed an interest in exploring ideas about learner-centred assessment in the present climate which has a marked emphasis on accountability and reporting. We are interested in hearing from practitioners willing to share their assessment practices especially where balance between responsiveness to the learner and demand for accountability has been achieved.
Workshop sessions will be selected to cater for the interests of delegates who work with adults. We seek to have sessions on the program that are relevant to:
- teaching reading and writing to adults whose first language is English
- teaching numeracy and maths to adults
- leaner-centred assessment
- application of technology to adult literacy and numeracy contexts
- teaching reading, writing and numeracy to adults from a non-English-speaking background
Sessions might focus on:
- pedagogy (including professional practice or professional development for teachers of literacy or numeracy to adults)
- assessment and evaluation
- meeting learners’ needs
- practical strategies for effective teaching and learning
- curriculum & policy
- project reports on new initiatives
- research
